Jerusalem started to expand rapidly after the 1967 Six Day War which meant several locations outside the Holy City became encompasses within the bourdies of the municipality. This means that while people are visiting Jerusalem, depending where they visit in the city, they can feel as though they are in the Middle East, a Western-style city, or a small village. One of the villages that became part of the greater Jersualem region is Ein Kerem, a former Arab village that is the reputed birthplace of John the Baptist.

The town of Ein Kerem is tucked away in the Judean Hills on the outskirts of the city, and is one of Jerusalem’s most picturesque neighborhoods. Many of the restaurants in the area, including Pundak Ein Kerem, take advantage of the beautiful scenery guests a beautiful view they can appreciate while enjoying their meal. The restaurant was initially built into an old Ottoman-era building located next to the town’s mosque, but they have since relocated to a new Spanish-style building with a beautiful garden, a terrace with terrific view, and a special room for hosting events.
